Exam Pattern

Before starting SBI Clerk Preparation you must know about the SBI Clerk Selection Process. The selection process includes Online Preliminary Exam, Main Exam and Personal Interview (subject to government guidelines).

Those interested in SBI Clerk Preparation should be well aware of the Exam pattern of the SBI Clerk. Here we are explaining in brief about the exam pattern of SBI Clerk.

This year SBI has changed the exam pattern of Clerk Recruitment and the new pattern will be as under:

The selection process will consist of online test (preliminary & main examinations), test of official and/or local language and interview (subject to Government of India approval)

Preliminary Examination: Preliminary Examination consisting of Objective Tests for 100 marks will be conducted online. This test would be of 1 hour duration consisting of 3 Sections as follows:

  1. English Language – 3o Questions of 30 Marks.
  2. Numerical Ability – 35 Questions of 35 Marks of 1 hour
  3. Reasoning Ability – 35 Questions of 35 Marks

Hence there will be a total of 100 questions of 100 marks. Candidates have to qualify in each of the three tests by securing passing marks which will be decided by the Bank.

Phase – II:

Main Examination: The structure of main examination (online objective type) would be as follows :

  1. General/Financial Awareness, 50 Questions of 50 Marks
  2. General English, 40 Questions of 40 Marks

There will be negative marks for wrong answers in the Objective tests. 1/4th mark will be deducted for each wrong

If you have any query you can post your comments and we will respond to that.

Negative Marking in SBI Clerk:

There is also negative marking. In one of my earlier articles I have guided my students about how they can tackle negative marking. Negative marking means that for every wrong answer there is a negative marking of 1/4th or 0.25. This means that if you attempt four wrong questions your one mark will be deducted.

There are no set time limits in competitive exams however to all my students I would like to tell that if you are determined for success you can get it quickly. But you have to be full of focus and must follow a strict time table for this exam. If one is determined and can follow a strict routine for preparation he or she can have very good command over all sections of the exams in six months. In my view six months overall preparation is sufficient, which you can divide for your pre as well as main examinations. But that does not mean that you will qualify it in the first attempt. You can qualify the exam in first attempt itself but since it is a competitive exam hence there is no guarantee of success. Even if you fail the best strategy is to continue your preparation and try to improve your preparation and speed as much as you can. If you have will power and determination you are bound to get success.

What should be the daily schedule for SBI Clerk Preparation?

For six months of SBI Clerk Preparation you must follow a very strict preparation schedule. You must study at least 1 hour for each section every day. Initially you must learn the concepts and later focus on increasing speed and solving practice sets and previous papers.

Every day candidates should read at least a good English newspaper thoroughly. English newspaper reading can help improve you General Awareness and English language. Therefore devote time towards reading newspaper. It also increases your capacity to read faster which also help during the exams.

Important for SBI Clerk Preparation

Time Management, Accuracy and Speed

These three words are key to success in SBI Clerk exam, if you can manage and allocate your time properly for section wise preparation you can prepare well. Accuracy is also very important as you cannot compromise with accuracy at any cost. Speed is also very important for a good SBI Clerk Preparation, but initially you should try to learn the concepts and once you have confidence in your preparation you should focus on increasing the speed.

Level of competition in SBI Clerk

Competition is quite tough in SBI Clerk exam. But it is also true that if you can prepare as suggested above you will surely get success sooner or later. As far as level of competition is concerned every year lacs of students appear in SBI Clerk Exam and only a few thousands get selected.
